Who We Are

Matinee was founded by Karthik, a software engineer and avid film fan who was frustrated with the fragmented state of movie and TV tracking tools. Existing apps either focused only on movies and ignored TV shows, or were so film-critic-focused that they forgot about the casual viewer who just wants to remember what they watched last week with their friends.

The idea for Matinee was simple: build the tracker that Karthik wished existed — one that handles both movies and TV, shows you where things are streaming right now, and makes it genuinely fun to share recommendations with the people you watch with.

Today, Matinee is used by thousands of movie and TV fans across iOS and Android. Every feature — from the Smart Watchlist Optimizer to the AI Smart Search — is built around a single goal: help you spend less time deciding what to watch and more time enjoying it.
