Child Safety Standards
Last updated: May 6, 2026
1. Our Commitment
Matinee is committed to providing a safe environment for all users. We have zero tolerance for any content, behavior, or activity that sexually exploits or endangers minors. This document describes our policies, detection and enforcement practices, and the mechanisms available to report child safety concerns.
2. Prohibited Content and Behavior
The following are strictly prohibited on Matinee and will result in immediate account termination and, where required by law, reporting to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and relevant law enforcement authorities:
- Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM): Any image, video, or other media that sexually exploits a minor.
- Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE): Any content, communication, or conduct that facilitates, promotes, or glorifies the sexual abuse or exploitation of minors.
- Grooming: Any attempt to build trust with a minor or their caregivers for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
- Solicitation: Requesting, sharing, or distributing sexual content involving minors, or seeking to arrange in-person meetings with minors for inappropriate purposes.
3. Age Requirement
Matinee requires all users to be at least 13 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13, we will terminate the account and delete associated data promptly in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
4. Detection and Enforcement
We employ the following measures to detect and act on child safety violations:
- User Reporting: Any user can report content or accounts directly within the Matinee app or by emailing child-safety@getmatinee.com. Reports flagged as child safety issues are escalated immediately for priority review.
- Manual Review: Reported content is reviewed by our safety team. Content confirmed to violate this policy is removed and the responsible account is permanently banned.
- Legal Reporting: Where applicable law requires it, we report confirmed CSAM to NCMEC's CyberTipline and cooperate fully with law enforcement investigations.
5. How to Report a Child Safety Concern
If you encounter content or behavior on Matinee that you believe violates these Child Safety Standards, please report it immediately using one of the following methods:
- In-app reporting: Tap the flag icon on any review, reply, list, profile, or feature request and select "Child Safety" or "CSAM / Child Exploitation" as the reason.
- Email: Send details to child-safety@getmatinee.com. Include a description of the concern, any relevant usernames or content links, and — if you are able — screenshots.
- NCMEC CyberTipline: You can also report CSAM directly to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at missingkids.org/cybertipline.
All child safety reports are treated as the highest priority. We aim to review child safety reports within 24 hours.
6. Content Moderation
User-generated content on Matinee — including movie reviews, list titles, reply threads, and feature requests — is subject to our Terms of Service. Content that violates our policies, including this Child Safety Standards document, may be removed at any time without notice. Accounts responsible for repeated or severe violations will be permanently banned.
7. Changes to These Standards
We may update these Child Safety Standards from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, applicable law, or platform features. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when changes are made.
